Nevada has held itself as the “gold standard” in gaming regulation for more than three score. And now, for nearly a decade, the state has used that model to claim its stake as a leader in cannabis regulation, too. But bringing those two together has been more like oil and water than chocolate and peanut butter.

It’s illegal to smoke or consume cannabis products in Nevada casinos, but marijuana use on the Resort Corridor is still prevalent. From the storefronts on Fremont Street advertising various types of flower to the tourists crammed into alleyways or in parking garages adjoining Strip resorts enjoying a smoke, many people aren’t aware that cannabis has been outlawed from gaming establishment properties.

Earlier this year, 30-year-old Peter Moran decided to make sports betting his full-time job. On TikTok, where he posts as PickEmPetey, he has an audience of more than 50,000 followers who watch him livestream, recap picks, and share his analysis. Moran also creates content around advice such as bankroll management.

Dave and Buster's and TouchTunes have struck a deal with software company Lucra to bring online betting to their bar and arcade games. NBC News' Brian Cheung has details on the planned rollout as some voice concerns over sports betting and addiction.

Dave & Buster’s, a popular entertainment chain known for its vibrant arcade games and family-friendly atmosphere, has recently introduced Betting that’s causing quite a stir. In collaboration with Lucra Sports, the company aims to allow customers to place bets on arcade games through a specialized app. This innovative approach, designed to enhance customer engagement and increase spending, is not being met with universal applause.

Not everyone is pleased with Dave & Buster’s plans to add a real money skill gaming option to its arcade experience. One critic in a position to do something about it is Illinois Rep. Dan Didech, who introduced a bill to prohibit precisely the sort of plan the family entertainment chain announced last week. Dave & Buster’s partnered with skill gaming company Lucra Sports to facilitate customers’ “friendly wagers” on games like Hot Shots and Skee-Ball.
