College of Sciences Advising Center

The College of Sciences Advising Center seeks to provide academic guidance and support that will empower students to achieve their personal and professional goals.

All admitted students in the College of Sciences are encouraged to meet with an advisor once each semester. Prospective students are encouraged to email the advising center for assistance. Students may schedule an appointment by calling the front office at 702-895-2077 or by self-scheduling online. All scheduled appointments will be completed using one of the following formats:

  • Virtual appointments through (screen and attachment sharing are available, and a camera is optional)
  • Phone appointments through your preferred phone number
  • In-person appointments at the advising center (MPE-A, Room 130)

Your advisor will contact you prior to your scheduled appointment to provide you with instructions on how to access your selected appointment format. Appointments may be scheduled for 30 minutes or 1 hour increments depending on the complexity of services requested. Students may request to meet with a specific advisor, or schedule with the soonest available advisor. Active students who have earned less than 30 credits will be encouraged to meet with the sciences First-Year Advisor.

Some reasons to meet with an advisor are described below.

  • Discuss course requirements, sequencing, and prerequisites
  • Verify that your courses are applicable to your degree plan
  • Make changes to your schedule or graduation timeline based personal circumstances or preferences
  • Discuss applying for reinstatement 
  • Discuss the graduation process
  • Declare a science major or minor
  • Complete financial appeals, petitions, excess credit, veteran, and other miscellaneous forms
  • Discuss how your degree plan relates to your career goals
  • Discuss withdrawing from one or more courses
  • Review transfer credits or request an equivalency review
  • Learn about academic resources and involvement opportunities at UNLV
  • Learn about program, department, college, or university policies
  • Provide feedback about your experiences at UNLV

Call-Back Hours

Students who urgently need to meet with an advisor may request a return phone call during the following times: Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. An advisor will contact you via phone on the same or next business day depending on your availability and time preferences. Call-backs are designed for quick questions and these calls run for approximately 10 minutes.

Email Assistance

Additional assistance for quick questions can be obtained via email. Please allow up to 2 business days for an email response (excluding weekends & holidays). Emails received from the sciences advising email account will be filtered and distributed to an available advisor. You may also directly reach out to the most recent advisor you have met. To expedite email responses, please ensure your email is sent through your account. Detailed questions involving complex course planning or paperwork processes may be referred to a full advising appointment at the discretion of the responding advisor.
