Job Summary
The Center for Urban Water Conservation in North Las Vegas has open student employee positions for the Fall 2024 semester. The Center is a joint research facility and demonstration orchard managed by UNLV and UNR. We provide outdoor research plots and greenhouse space for student and faculty projects while also growing and selling native and/or desert-adapted ornamental plants, fruit trees, vegetables, and herbs with the goal of providing water-efficient options for growing in the Mojave Desert.

These open positions are responsible for providing assistance to site staff. Overall responsibilities include research project assistance, data collection and entry, and general site maintenance. Specific duties include irrigation, plant measurements, weeding, mulching, pruning, native seed collection, seed cleaning, planting, maintaining the compost bin, general site organization and clean-up, and event assistance. Other duties may be assigned, as needed.

The ideal candidate will be reliable, responsible, and have the ability to work independently while maintaining good communication. Work is primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions; therefore, the ideal candidate will also need to be comfortable performing physical tasks outside.

Job Location & Working Conditions
● 4734 Horse Dr., North Las Vegas, NV 89084 (east of Shadow Ridge High School)
● This is not a main campus position - priority will be given to students who live near The Center.
● Considerable time is spent doing physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Work Schedule & Compensation
● Flexible, based on student’s course schedule
● Positions are available until filled through 12/31/2024
● $15 per hour, 19 hours per week

Minimum Qualifications
● Be admitted as a regular degree seeking student
● Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. National, a U.S. permanent resident, or other eligible non-citizen with
an I-94 arrival/departure record with an approved designation
● Be enrolled in at least one (1) credit for the fall or spring terms
● Undergraduate students must maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA
● Graduate students must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA
