Dr. Harold L. Boyer was a well-known member of the Las Vegas medical profession. A dermatologist, he and his wife Judith, moved to Las Vegas in 1952. A member of the Rotary Club of Las Vegas since 1955, he spearheaded the Rotary Club Oral History project. Due to Dr. Boyer’s interest in oral history, trustees Robert E. Clark and William Sheehan of the Harold L. Boyer Charitable Foundation felt it appropriate to create an endowed scholarship in the Department of History at UNLV to encourage students to pursue this specialization.
The annual Harold L. Boyer and Judith Boyer History Student Scholarship shall be given to a student(s) meeting the following criteria:
- Preference given to a student demonstrating financial need through the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA);
- Student must be an admitted, full time student;
- Student must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher;
- Student must be majoring in history;
- Preference will be given to a student specializing in oral history, particularly oral history of Nevada.
Recipients may be eligible for this award in subsequent years, provided they maintain the scholarship criteria and remain in good standing with the institution.
*Unless otherwise noted, all students who fill out a FAFSA or alternate need form and meet the criteria for the scholarship will be considered. No other application is needed.
*Selected award winner’s name is due to the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s office by December 1st.
