Angela Peterson was a gifted undergraduate student of both anthropology and psychology. During her years at UNLV, she conducted research and published in archaeology as well as biological and linguistic anthropology. In addition to being a remarkable young scholar, she was also extremely active in student life, particularly the UNLV Anthropology Society. She was well-known in the anthropology department as an ever-positive, upbeat, not to mention academically gifted undergraduate. As an only child, her parents took great pride in her success. Thus, in November of 2009, when her life was cut short by a drunk driver, her mother and father started a scholarship in her name in order to not only keep Angela’s memory alive, but also to help foster in others the same kinds of academic successes their daughter achieved.
