UNLV International Gaming Institute has an active research agenda in our position as an academic neutral space to effect positive change in the rapidly globalizing world of gambling. Over the years, this research has been presented to academic, industry, non-profit, and government audiences throughout the U.S. and worldwide.
Noteworthy recent accomplishments resulting from IGI’s research-in-action include:
1. The passing of Japan’s Gambling Addiction Countermeasures Bill after two academic reports outlining the socio-economic costs and benefits of integrated resorts in new gaming jurisdictions, and practical perspectives on gambling& regulatory processes (reports also available in Japanese)
2. The introduction of the (former) NFL Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas following the presentation of an academic report on the risks and benefits of bringing a professional sports team to Las Vegas to Raiders owner, Mark Davis, and the NFL.
3. A brief series of summary white papers on sports wagering in the United States, including The Big Questions about industry expansion, and The Marketing Moment, focused on advertising in sports wagering. These white papers have an intended audience of U.S. policymakers, regulators, and the general public, so they aim for an accessible style, free of academic jargon.
