Women
Women students, staff and faculty may confront challenges to their academic and professional success, often exacerbated when their gender intersects with other identities, such as race, ethnicity, sexuality, class and disability. In collaboration with campus women, UNLV is dedicated to developing and providing the programs, support and resources necessary for all women to thrive personally and professionally.
Resources
- Black Professional Women’s Alliance (BPWA) – Supports black and multi-ethnic women who work at UNLV and the Nevada System of Higher Education by promoting cultural awareness, providing professional development and networking opportunities, fostering a positive workplace and celebrating professional achievements.
- Office of Faculty Affairs - Provides resources and services that support and advance UNLV’s academic and administrative communities at every stage of their academic career.
- UNLV Gender and Sexuality Studies – Seeks to correct institutional neglect, denial and devaluation of the study of women and gender in higher education. The curriculum is designed to focus students on the relationship between feminist theories and women’s activism throughout history.
- The Intersection – Serves as an academic resource center for UNLV students seeking information and assistance on a variety of topics that reflect the challenges they encounter in their academic lives. The primary focus is demystifying the college experience for self-identified first-generation and students of color.
- Jean Nidetch CARE (Campus Anti-violence Advocacy Resources and Empowerment) Center – Serves UNLV students, faculty, and staff who have been impacted by sexual assault, sexual harassment, relationship abuse, family violence, and/or stalking. The center operates from an anti-oppression framework to provide trauma-informed and healing-centered care.
- UNLV Women’s Council - Advocates for and contributes to the creation, implementation and monitoring of initiatives designed to ensure that UNLV women are treated equitably and respectfully and are valued and supported in pursuit of their professional and personal growth.
- Women’s Research Institute of Nevada (WRIN) – Develops research that yields new insights into the lives and experiences of women, teaches and mentors women to solve problems in the real world, and facilitates leadership development in college women.
- Multicultural Program for STEM and Health Sciences – Works with and for minority and underrepresented students including women in science and health related disciplines. The program continues a 30-year legacy of empowering women in male dominated STEM industries and provides a broad variety of support services to K-20 students.
March is Women's History Month, and UNLV Libraries wants to celebrate by sharing with you some of our women-focused research sources, including some unique resources only housed right here at UNLV.
