Who is a transfer student?
You are a transfer student if you have earned college credits after completing high school or you wish to earn a second bachelor's degree at UNLV. If you are still in high school and are taking college courses as part of a dual enrollment or concurrent enrollment, you are considered a first-year student for the purposes of admission.
- If you are transferring from an NSHE (Nevada System of Higher Education) two-year institution, please see additional resources and pathways towards admission.
- If you are transferring from a California community college, your UNLV General Education coursework will be automatically waived if you have completed the certification requirements for either IGETC or Breadth, and the certification is reflected on your transcript.
- The only exception is that all UNLV students do have to complete the Nevada Constitution Course, and students with Breadth certification also need to complete English 102.
- If you are transferring from an Arizona community college, your UNLV General Education coursework will be automatically waived if you have completed the certification requirements for the Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC) Arts (A), Business (B), or Sciences (S), and the certification is reflected on your transcript.
- The only exception is that all UNLV students do have to complete the Nevada Constitution Course.

Transferring Credits
Coursework will be officially evaluated only after an application has been submitted and official transcripts from each institution attended have been received by the Office of Admissions. Evaluation is generally complete within 1-3 weeks.
College-level coursework from regionally accredited institutions will transfer. Remedial coursework and vocational coursework will not transfer. Religion courses from private institutions will not transfer.
UNLV will complete an internal evaluation of any international transfer credits. Please visit the International Students website to learn more about how to submit your college/university transcripts for evaluation.
Transferology
If you repeat a transferable course at the same institution, the first attempt will not be included in GPA calculation for admission. UNLV does not recognize academic renewal or forgiveness policies from other institutions. To convert quarter credits to the semester credits value, multiply credits by two and divide by three (two-thirds ratio). For admissions purposes, credits do not expire, and all earned credits will be evaluated.
Nontraditional credits, including but not limited to AP (Advanced Placement), CLEP, and Dantes, may be applied toward your degree, although nongraded credits will not count toward the transferable total for admission. A maximum of 60 nontraditional credits can be used toward a degree at UNLV.
