Boards
Dining Advisory Board
Formed in 2013, the Dining Advisory Board provides an opportunity for UNLV students, staff, and faculty to have a more cohesive and organized voice regarding the on-campus dining service. It also allows UNLV Dining to receive direct and regular feedback from campus constituents. The primary objectives of this committee are:
- The education of students and faculty in the best use of dining services and resources.
- The development of initiatives to improve the dining experience on campus,
- The recommendation of services and general improvements in the dining operation.
The board currently meets on a monthly basis. To ask questions, email studentaffairscontracts@unlv.edu.
Scarlet & Gray Advisory Board
The Scarlet & Gray student newspaper advisory board is made up of professionals in journalism, faculty, UNLV staff, student representatives, and the student media adviser. It brings together the management team of The Scarlet and Gray Free Press and acts as an administrative support for all the components of the paper.
The board meets monthly during the school year to review budgets, assist the editorial team in their progress toward their goals, and troubleshoot any concerns. Applications to become an advisory board member are accepted on a rolling basis. To apply or to ask questions, please contact us at chief.freepress@unlv.edu.
Committees
Bookstore Advisory Committee
The Bookstore Advisory Committee provides an opportunity for UNLV students, staff, and faculty to have a cohesive and organized voice in regard to the bookstore service. It also allows the Bookstore to receive feedback more regularly and directly from the UNLV population. The primary objectives of this committee are:
- The education of students and faculty in the best use of bookstore resources.
- The development of initiatives to reduce the cost of textbooks by increasing communication among publishers, bookstore management, faculty, and students.
- The recommendation of services and general improvements in the bookstore operation.
The Bookstore Advisory Committee was re-formed in 2013 and currently meets four to five times each academic year. It is co-chaired by Anne O'Connor, the director of student affairs contracts and business partnerships, and Mondana Egdhami, the UNLV Bookstore manager.
The Student Health Insurance Plan Committee
The Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) Committee was formed to provide broad campus involvement in the management and fine-tuning of the Student Health Insurance Plan. The Committee endeavors to provide a health insurance plan that balances meeting the essential medical and mental health needs of our diverse student body with an affordable premium price.
Student Life Funding (CSUN) Committee
The Student Life Funding committee is funded from a portion of the general registration fee for undergraduate activities and programs charged to undergraduate students each semester. It exists to provide funding to established programs and services at UNLV to allow for new programs and initiatives to be funded through the CSUN Student Senate. The CSUN Senate is a better representation of the UNLV student body, and should be the deciding factor in funding new programs that are coming to the University. This committee will fund existing and established programs in order to take that financial burden off the CSUN Student Government General Account.
The committee will accept applications from existing and proven successful programs and departments. Success will be defined by student attendance and participation, proven benchmarks, years the program has existed, and how it has benefited the UNLV community. Each program will only be eligible for funding once per academic year from this committee.
