Welcome to Cayuse

Hello Researchers!

Cayuse is the electronic IRB management system UNLV uses for IRB review. All aspects of IRB review occur within Cayuse.

Use the links below to access Cayuse, or to learn more about how to use Cayuse.

  • Use this link to log into the Cayuse system with your ACE credentials.

  • Use this form to request the creation of your Cayuse account, if you have never used Cayuse before.

  • Use this link to schedule time to meet with Joanna Simmons, Research Protections Program Coordinator, to receive assistance with navigating and troubleshooting Cayuse issues. You may also reach out to Joanna at irb@unlv.edu if you prefer.

To inquire about the status of a study, or to get in touch with a Human Research Administrator (HRA) to ask IRB questions and/or discuss a study under review, email irb@unlv.edu to be connected with the appropriate HRA.

Helpful Information

Cayuse is both more powerful and different from our existing IRBNet system. Live training sessions have now ended. A recorded training session with closed captioning is available on

Cayuse also has a Help Center that offers guidance and walkthroughs on how to navigate the Cayuse system. If it’s your first time using the Cayuse Help Center, click on the “Sign up” link and enter your name and email address. You will receive an email from Cayuse with a temporary password to access the Cayuse Help Center and from there you can update your password. From the Cayuse Help Center landing page, select “Human Ethics”. Navigate to the desired category for help in a certain area or type a keyword into the search box.

I am a UNLV researcher. How do I get access to the Cayuse Human Ethics (IRB) protocol submission system?

When is the Cayuse training being held? How can I sign up for training?

Live training sessions have now ended. A recorded training session with closed captioning is available on .

How do I download all my project files from IRBNet to prepare for this transition to Cayuse?

In IRBNet, there is no shortcut to download all project documents at once. If you need to download all of a project documents, you may download them individually by navigating to the Designer page, using the blue, downward-facing arrow at the top of the page to open the Package Navigator, selecting All Documents, then downloading each document using the white piece of paper icon. You may wish to click the  "Show All Versions" link if you need to download all versions of each document, rather than just the most recent version of each document. You can also view all project documents from the Submission Detail page by clicking on the All Project Documents; link above the "New and Revised Documents in this Package" table. Again, you may wish to toggle to the "Show All Versions" view, depending on which versions you'd like to download.

I want to submit a modification/renewal/incident report/closure for a study that was approved in IRBNet. How do I transfer my approved protocols from IRBNet to Cayuse?

All approved IRBNet protocols have been transferred over as a "Legacy" study, which is a protocol shell that only includes the PI's name, study title, approval date, and expiration date. The PI is the only person who has access to the Legacy study, and it is the PI's responsibility to complete the Legacy submission with the approved study information. Please note that the information entered into the legacy submission must match the last IRB approved protocol that was submitted in IRBNet.

After the PI completes the Legacy submission, they will then have the ability to create a Modification, Renewal, Incident Report, or Closure submission. Primary contacts need to be added after the legacy submission is complete via a modification or renewal submission.
