Hello!
I am delighted to serve as our university’s executive vice president and provost. In this role, I am the chief academic officer, overseeing all aspects of our academic mission. I work with President Keith E. Whitfield in setting our strategic priorities and responsibilities to our students and alumni, our faculty and staff, and our community at large.
Over 4,000 dedicated faculty and staff help us enrich the lives of more than 30,000 students who choose UNLV. They strengthen the communities we serve through research and scholarship, clinical services, creative activities, professional services, and community outreach. I am honored to be a member of this team.
The contributions of our faculty and staff are propelling us to greater heights of excellence. UNLV is designated by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education as an R1 institution for “very high research activity.” This puts UNLV among the nation’s top 3 percent of higher education institutions for research. We also have attained the Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement, the highest standard of recognition for a university’s civic efforts.
UNLV consistently has been ranked by U.S. News and World Report as one of the top universities in the country for diversity. This means that students at UNLV are more likely than at other universities to meet people from different backgrounds and cultures. This wealth of diversity gives our students a living laboratory where they learn to live and work with people who are different from themselves while they take on the complex challenges of our day.
At UNLV, we are guided by a shared understanding that our success as a team and as an institution should be judged by the success of those whose lives we touch.
Go UNLV!
Chris L. Heavey, Ph.D.
