UPD Public Safety Advisory Board

The new University Police Services, Southern Command (UPD) Public Safety Advisory Board consists of a Board of Directors with representatives from all Southern Nevada institutions and four UPD Public Safety Campus Committees. Together, with student, community and campus leaders, organizations and stakeholders, the UPD Public Safety Advisory Board provides recommendations to the Vice President for Public Safety Services & Director of University Police Services.

Specifically, they:

  1. Support a community-based public safety approach that fosters a communicative relationship between students, staff, faculty, visitors, community partners and University Police Services;  
  2. Promote a commitment to campus empowerment and inclusivity;   
  3. Foster and enhance relationships and communication channels between campus communities and University Police Services;   
  4. Solicit stakeholder input on matters pertaining to public safety ideas, issues and concerns;   
  5. Evaluate campus needs and make recommendations that elevate evidence-based, trauma-informed public safety, crime prevention, harm reduction, and damage mitigation services;   
  6. Support transparency and promote awareness of public safety programs;   
  7. Advise and make recommendations to the Vice President for Public Safety Services concerning the delivery of police services, recognizing that the Vice President for Public Safety Services is ultimately responsible for all operational decisions related to police operations.

Board Representatives

The board’s representatives include student leaders, classified employees, administrative faculty, academic faculty, a University Polices Services civilian representative and the Vice President of Public Safety. The Board’s specific geographic focus areas include all higher education campuses: UNLV, NSC, SLC, DRI, and CSN. Board representatives knowledgeable of issues in these areas are:
