The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) Named Fellowship Program marks UNLV’s commitment to expanding and supporting undergraduate research. UNLV’s top leaders listed here endorse this year-long program to foster direct undergraduate student participation in research, to fulfill UNLV’s student-centered mission, to achieve excellence in research education, and to enhance students’ overall learning experience.
Eligibility, Application Process, and Requirements
Eligibility
Currently enrolled undergraduate students at UNLV, with a declared major, and working with a UNLV faculty research mentor are eligible for consideration.
Consideration
Applicants will be considered for two types of award under the Named Fellowship program, depending on their academic affiliation.
General Fellowships: $1,500 - $5,000 each. These scholarships are available to students in any major. General scholarship funds are provided by the Office of the UNLV President, the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, the Vice President of Research, Black Fire Innovation, and the Consolidated Students of the Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» (CSUN), and the Office of Undergraduate Research.
College-Specific Fellowships: Amounts and number of awards vary. College-specific scholarships are awarded according to the student’s college affiliation (major).
Students are required to submit the following as part of their application package:
- One-page personal statement detailing the applicant’s research project and activities they plan to undertake. For instructions, please peruse OUR’s one-page personal statement sample.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV). For instructions, please view the following samples:
- Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (AHS) CV sample
- Health and Natural Sciences and Engineering (HNSE) CV sample
3. Institutional Review Board (IRB) / Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) (if applicable)
UNLV faculty research mentors are required to submit a letter of support to our@unlv.edu.
Awardees are expected to meet the requirements listed below:
- Present at one of OUR’s triannual research symposia
- Represent OUR in research-related events
- Awardees in the advanced stages of their research are strongly encouraged to submit a manuscript to Spectra Undergraduate Research Journal
