Domains of Influence: Socio-cultural
This domain refers to cultural influences that vary by geography, age group, and ethnicity. Our research explores how culture affects use of health services, resilience, and recovery from illness. Also in this domain is the role of the sociocultural environment in learning among nurses.
Our faculty investigate the role of cultural identity, discrimination, and other cultural influences on personal health.
Our faculty are examining the health effects of cyberbullying and prejudice on health. We are also exploring the role of interprofessional education for nurses.
At the community level, our faculty examine the effects of culture on learning environments, the role of discrimination on population health, and ways to use culture to support optimum wellness.
Examples of societal level questions include societal structures of discrimination and effects of cultural structures on nursing education.
