How to Get Involved

Increase your involvement by attending nursing alumni events, volunteering at school-wide events throughout the year, by joining the UNLV Nursing Alumni Speakers Bureau, or by volunteering to be a mentor through the school’s mentoring program. Recent Alumni Accomplishments

  • December 2022: Kimberly Foxworth, '22, was named Outstanding Hospital Champion by Valley Health System. Dr. Foxworth is currently the Assistant Chief Nursing Officer at Desert Springs Hospital Medical Center.
  • October 2022: Paul Smith, '16 was named Dean of the Linfield-Good Samaritan School of Nursing.
  • September 2022: Meg Moorman, '13 was inducted into the National League for Nursing's Academy of Nurse Educators (ANEF). She's currently the Director of Faculty Innovating for Nursing Education (FINE) Center and Coordinator of MSN in Nursing Education at Indiana University School of Nursing.
  • May 2022: Paul Smith, ‘16 received the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nursing Faculty.
  • March 2022: Nikule Abel, '21 was named to the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Organization of Registered Nurses. She currently works as a surgical trauma registered nurse at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
  • February 2022: Iris Martinez, '21 was the recipient of the 4th annual Lois Capps Scholarship fund. The scholarship will cover the costs associated with Iris attending the Nurses in Washington Internship, where she and other young nurses will meet lawmakers and learn more about health policy changes and advocacy efforts.
  • January 2022: Michelle Giddings-White, ‘05 was named as the Nevada Nurse Practitioner representative for the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners’ .
  • January 2022: April Clyde, '00 was named among MyVegas Magazine's list Top 100 Women of 2021. April opened Nevada's first and only free standing birth center in 2021.
  • October 2021: Jordyn Solis, '20 grad won the DAISY Award while working as an registered nurse at Henderson Hospital. This prestigious award recognizes exemplary nurses for their skills and care.
  • July 2021: Edward Aquino, '10, '17, started his new role as nurse practitioner at the 99th Medical Group Family Health Clinic at Nellis Air Force Base.
  • June 2021: Alison Borgsmiller, '06, '18, was named the June Hands-On Hero from First 5 San Luis Obispo County. This award recognizes exceptional people who advocate for child health.
  • May 2021: Angela Dimaya, '00, won the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. This prestigious award recognizes exemplary nurses for their skills and care.

Class Notes

Maria Maliwat

Maria Donnalin Maliwat, '98 BS Hotel Administration, is the mother of Carmella Gabrielle Maliwat Bugay, '17 BS Healthcare Administration, Anthony Emmanuel Maliwat Bugay, a junior studying nursing, and Brandon James Maliwat Bugay, a freshman pre-nursing student. The family lives in Henderson.  

Ann Occhi

Ann Occhi, ’76 AA Nursing, ’79 BS Nursing, ’92 MS Nursing, works as a supervisor for school nurses. She earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Phoenix. She was a foster parent for eight medically fragile children and adopted five children. Her hobbies are biking, camping, and being part of a women’s dragon boat team. She lives in Portland, Oregon.
