UNLV became the first school in the Nevada System of Higher Education to launch a plan to address climate change, unveiling it at a kickoff event on Friday afternoon. Known as the Rebel Climate Action Plan (CAP), the document is a roadmap for how the school will meet its goal of slashing its greenhouse gas emissions 50 percent by 2030 and becoming net zero by the university’s 100th birthday in 2057. Net zero refers to a state where the carbon dioxide UNLV is putting into the atmosphere is offset with the amount removed, thus not contributing to warming.

Beam Hall, which has been closed for repairs since the tragedy, will hold about 160 classes in the fall, Provost Chris Heavey said during a meeting updating university leaders on the campus recovery following the Dec. 6., 2023 shooting.

Starting this summer, the Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ will administer a survey to faculty, staff and administrators to collect data on existing services and resources on campus that support the university’s mission as a Minority-Serving Institution. The survey is one piece of a larger strategy to promote student success among underrepresented student groups, but it serves as a launching point in identifying future areas of focus and charting engagement and changes over time.
