In a scene similar to Tuesday evening, more long lines wrapped around The Lotto Store in Primm again on Wednesday with thousands of hopefuls buying tickets to a multi-million dollar lottery jackpot. But unlike previous occasions when crowds visited the lottery ticket vendor just across the state line in California, many players were there for more than the money.

Just two months after a virtual groundbreaking ceremony, construction crews were pouring the foundation Saturday on the future centerpiece of UNLV’s School of Medicine. When complete, it will be a 5-story, 135-thousand square foot state of the art facility for medical students, across from Valley Hospital on Shadow Lane.
Boarded-up casinos. Little to no traffic. Hardly any pedestrians. The Strip was throwing off some serious post-apocalyptic vibes. Images like that, broadcast around the world, could have broken a lesser city’s spirit.
The day I wrote this, I woke up with soreness in my right arm, having been an early recipient of the newly approved Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Development of the vaccine in less than a year from the first reported case of COVID-19 in the United States is a testament to our ability to mobilize resources in times of crisis and to the hard work and ingenuity of the global scientific community.
