The UNLV Department of Dance is pleased to announce its 2024-25 concert season, At the Epicenter, celebrating where artistry, and choreography come together at the epicenter of Las Vegas motion. When the earth moves at its joints (faults), the seismic activity has a central point of motion called the epicenter — a place where motion begins.
The season opens with Together 8, October 4-5 in the Judy Bayley Theatre. This concert celebrates the 16-year relationship between UNLV Dance and Korea National Sport University (KNSU) of Seoul, South Korea. The concert brings together 10 students from KNSU and 10 UNLV dance majors in a joint performance of choreography by faculty of both institutions. The concert will be performed in Las Vegas, and then will travel for performance in Seoul. Featured choreographers include Hayley Meier, Jason Hortin, Dolly Kelepecz, guest artist Danielle Maas, and faculty from KNSU.
Geometries, November 1-2 in Dance Studio HFA 111, features exciting choreography and lighting design by talented Bachelor of Fine Arts majors in Performance and Choreography and Dance Production and Management.
Fall ends with Nexus, November 15-16, a mix of work by students and faculty.
Spring concerts begin with Syncopations, February 28-March 1, 2025 in the Judy Bayley Theatre, which will feature works by faculty and guest artists including the classic work Lords of Persia (1965) by Erick Hawkins, a significant choreographer of the 20th century. Lords of Persia will be performed at UNLV and will then travel to New York City for performance as part of the University Partners Showcase of the prestigious Martha Graham Dance Company Joyce Theatre Season.
The season ends with Convergence on April 25-26, a final concert of milestone and capstone choreographed works and lighting to wrap up the season of dance.
The season will contain choreography by full time dance faculty Cathy Allen, Victoria Dale, Jason Hortin, Louis Kavouras, Dolly Kelepecz-Momot, and Hayley Meier, with lighting, scenic, sound and projection design by faculty design specialist Michael Jarett and new dance faculty production specialist, Michele Anderson.
Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at the UNLV Performing Arts Center Box Office, located on the northeast end of campus and attached to the south face of the parking garage. Maps and directions are available online. Individual show tickets may be purchased for $20 over the phone by calling 702-895-ARTS (2787) or online from the Performing Arts Center Box Office.
Discount tickets are available to seniors, military members, all students, UNLV faculty, staff, and alumni for $12. Streaming access for each concert will also be $12 per household. Additional fees may apply.
