Add $8 million to the funding that UNLV stands to lose if Len Jessup is pushed out as the university’s president.

UNLV President Len Jessup’s decision to sign an agreement conditioning a $14 million donation to the medical school on him keeping his job through 2022 “raises serious questions about Dr. Jessup’s ethics” and “the optics are appalling,” a lawyer for the Nevada System of Higher Education wrote in a legal opinion obtained by The Nevada Independent.

UNLV’s new School of Medicine has scored its first triumph. Professor Katherine Hertlein, who studies romantic and family relationships for the school’s psychiatry and behavioral health department, has garnered a Fulbright scholarship, one of the most important academic designations in the U.S. It will enable Hertlein, who also is a therapist, to further develop her studies—specifically, how relationships are affected by technology—at the University of Salzburg in Austria, where she’ll teach two classes and conduct a survey starting in March 2019. The Weekly recently spoke with her about her studies and award.

Barrick Museum gives orphaned Zine Library a new home for trove of DIY delights. After languishing for close to a year-and-a-half in a closet following the closure of The Beat Coffeehouse & Records, the Las Vegas Zine Library has finally found a new home in the UNLV Marjorie Barrick Museum.

A conference entitled “Memory of Trauma – Armenian, Jewish, and African American Experience” took place at UNLV on Wednesday, March 7. The conference, was organized and sponsored by the UNLV Center for Democratic Culture and the UNLV Boyd School of Law with the participation of the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Armenia in Las Vegas.
