As Utahns head to the polls Tuesday, they’re not the only Westerners facing a big decision. But while Utah has been a reliably red state for decades — a Democrat has not represented Utah in the Senate since the 1970s — other nearby Senate seats are up for grabs, making the West crucial in the battle over control of the Senate.

Angling to tap into strong support for the sweeping health law he helped pass 14 years ago, one of President Joe Biden’s latest reelection strategies is to remind voters that former President Donald Trump tried to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

The primary elections are over and it looks like predictions for the U.S. Senate race, Las Vegas mayor and city council were spot on. Senator Jacky Rosen will face Republican Sam Brown in November. There were no surprises in the races for Congress. Shelley Berkeley will face Victoria Seaman for Las Vegas mayor; and two Las Vegas city council seats were likely won outright by incumbents Brian Knudsen and Olivia Diaz.

Sam Brown’s Senate campaign in Nevada proclaims the Republican will “finish President Trump’s wall, destroy the cartels and stop the invasion of the border.” Brown, the leader among GOP primary candidates seeking to unseat Democratic incumbent U.S. Sen. Jacky Rosen, makes no bones about his love for Trump.

Political mail pieces that have arrived in North Las Vegas residents’ mailboxes attack state Sen. Dina Neal (D-North Las Vegas) as “‘Dirty Deal’ Neal,” alleging she has been “soft-on-crime for decades [and] has tried to destroy our police department and community.”
