Nearly two weeks after a gunman killed three faculty members and seriously injured a fourth on campus, thousands of UNLV graduates are celebrating earning their degrees.

Once in the arena, the day’s celebratory feel was bolstered by the screams of joy from students and supporters in the packed stands. Two weeks ago, the campus had a different feel.

Another semester wraps up at UNLV and that means graduation for hundreds of students.

The medicinal and recreational use of legal cannabis is still relatively new in Nevada, where lawful sales debuted in 2017, and the regulation of consumption lounges is being worked through. That’s part of the reason why UNLV created its Cannabis Policy Institute, which is believed to be the first of its kind in Nevada and possibly in the United States.

UNR and UNLV would already meet simpler qualifications for an R1 classification in advance of expected 2025 designations.

The vote spurred a few minutes of chaos and flaring tempers during a Friday special meeting of the board, after Regent Carol Del Carlo moved to start a search for an internal interim chancellor who could be considered at a later date for the permanent position — and specifically named the potential appointment of UNLV Provost Chris Heavey.

The new RebelFlex hybrid classrooms at the Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­ (UNLV) were part of a big, bold plan. Not only a solution during a pandemic, but a new standard has been set in place for UNLV’s classrooms going forward.
