Chad Cross (Epidemiology & Biostatistics) provided an invited departmental seminar to the faculty in the department of entomology and nematology at the University of Florida titled "Use of Healthcare Utilization Inpatient Records for Estimating Trends in Vector-Borne Diseases."
The seminar highlighted original research on the most important vector-borne diseases of mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas in the United States. This ongoing research was initiated in response to the growing number of cases of vector-borne diseases across the country, particularly tick-borne illnesses. This research adds substantively to the potential of using long-term, large data sets that combine the disciplines of biology, statistics, and data science to provide insight into medical and public health entomology.
