We are a small, selective college within the university that offers an exceptional undergraduate experience for highly motivated students. The Honors College is an educational partner with the “discipline” colleges of the University in which Honors students pursue their academic majors. The combination of a central Honors intellectual core and specialized learning in a major discipline helps develop graduates who are fully prepared to succeed in graduate and professional schools and in rewarding careers.
The Honors College is distinguished by a diverse student body, an innovative curriculum taught by outstanding faculty, personalized advising, multiple research and service opportunities, scholarships, priority registration, small class sizes, and special residential arrangements. Consequently, the Honors College attracts excellent students from Nevada, across the United States and around the globe, joining dedicated faculty and staff to form a unique learning community supporting educational innovation and achievement.
Dean’s Welcome
Welcome to the Honors College at UNLV! A home of academic excellence since 1985, the HC (as we affectionately call it) exists to serve high-achieving, highly-motivated students who want to take their education and their impact to the next level.
With more than 1,250 undergraduates from majors across all academic disciplines, the Honors College offers three distinct academic programs: University Honors (UH), Research and Creative Honors (RH), and Service-Learning Honors (SH). Each program provides an engaging curriculum designed to challenge you, inspire you, and empower you. Whether your plans are to go on to medical school, law school, a graduate program, or the workforce, the Honors experience will ensure that you can think critically, communicate effectively, and lead boldly.
Located in the Beverly Rogers Literature and Law building (RLL), the Honors College is in a bright, beautiful space that includes a private study lounge, computer lab, and the offices of most of our faculty and staff. We hope you’ll visit RLL often to study, hang out with friends, and meet with your Honors College advisor. Our dedicated advising team works in conjunction with advisors in your discipline college to make sure you are enrolled in the right classes each semester and making progress toward graduation.
Central to the Honors experience is our outstanding, award-winning faculty. Honors College professors strive to provide transformational educational experiences, offering unique, thought-provoking classes that are small, so you can receive individual attention and make lasting connections with your peers. Our aim is to create a true community of life-long learners and problem-solvers.
Our Honors Student Council and Second Year Senate— two student leadership groups that help host social, professional development, and community service events for the HC— are integral to creating that sense of community. You can meet fellow Honors College students through numerous social events such as Coffee House night, Friendsgiving, and the Spring Picnic, just to name a few, or through our various HC clubs. I encourage you to get involved and connect— maximize the opportunities provided to you in the HC and across UNLV.
All of us here in the Honors College are dedicated to your growth and success. We hope you are proud to call the HC your home. And please know how proud I am to serve as your dean.
Warm regards,
Lisa Menegatos, Ph.D.
Dean, Honors College
