History & Traditions
History
Homecoming at UNLV is one of the university’s longest standing traditions dating back to the Tumbleweed Tech days. The first-ever homecoming on campus was sponsored by the student government (CSNS) known today as CSUN. The celebration was held in conjunction with a basketball game against archrival University of Nevada in 1966. Since that time, Homecoming has grown and changed in many ways and has served to engage our students and welcome alumni and friends back to campus each year.
Traditions
Events and competitions like Window Painting, Office Decorating, Rebel Variety Show, Most Spirited Rebel, Rebel Royalty, Alumni Awards, Rebel Homecoming Festival and Parade are staple events that promote school spirit and pride
The tradition of Rebel Homecoming began in 1966 at a basketball game. Watch this video for a fun look at the evolution throughout the years. True to our rebel spirit, the celebration has included everything from food fights to a pachyderm queen. Enjoy this walk down memory lane!
Committee
The Rebel Homecoming Committee is a university-wide collaborative effort with representatives serving to increase pride/affinity, create celebration opportunities, establish and maintain campus traditions, and promote stewardship. The committee brings together alumni, students, faculty, staff, their families, supporters of athletics and the arts, donors, and the Las Vegas community.
