Friends and colleagues,
Today, I would like us to remember a day that changed our community forever. Seven years ago, our city suffered from the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. On October 1, 2017, a gunman opened fire from a room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel, killing sixty and injuring at least 413 others who were across the street enjoying a Route 91 Harvest music festival.
On this solemn seventh anniversary, I ask we continue to honor the lives our community lost, their families, and all those who are still impacted by the traumatic events of that day. Let’s also take a moment to pay tribute to this great city’s first responders, citizens, hospital workers, nurses, and physicians, some of our very own, whose bravery will never be forgotten.
Healing takes time, but together, we are stronger.
Sincerely,
