The State of Nevada provides special teaching licenses (7th grade through adult) for Career and Technical Education subjects in public schools.

An individual can apply for and receive a Business & Industry teaching license if he/she has an earned high school diploma or its equivalent; has a minimum of 5 years of full-time qualifying employment after age 16 in an endorsement area; and, holds a license issued by the appropriate Nevada licensing Board (if one is required by law for employment; i.e., Nurse, Cosmetologist, etc.) in the endorsement area.

Requirements

After a person is granted an initial license they must take 12 semester credits from an accredited postsecondary institution, including courses in the following areas:

  • Three semester hours in a course involving career and technical education teaching methodology (State Requirement #7580)
  • Three semester hours in a professional career and technical education courses (State Requirement #7581)
  • Three semester hours in a course on applied and/or work-based learning (State Requirement #7582)
  • Three semester hours in a course on career and technical education student organization management (State Requirement #7583)

At least 3 of the required 12 semester credits must be successfully completed and verified by submission of official transcripts within one year from the date of issuance of the provisional license.

It is our goal that Career and Technical and Postsecondary Education teachers will be prepared to provide their own students of all ages and backgrounds with real-life learning experiences, stimulate student motivation through interest and relevancy, and develop their students' competence and confidence in their abilities as they prepare to become productive citizens.
