Auditions for department productions are held several times throughout the year. Announcements for these are usually posted two weeks prior to auditions and will include the date, time and location, as well as specific material to prepare. Those wishing to audition must sign-up in the theatre department office (FDH 410) for a specific time slot.
Be Professional
The actor must treat the audition like he would any job interview. Be professional, be prepared and dress appropriately and comfortably. When asked a question, be precise and don't waste time. The actor must be fully aware of the play and what may be asked of him due to the text.
Show Your Skills
If a monologue is required, pick one that shows off your skills. The monologue should be no more than a minute or minute and a half. It is wise to prepare a few monologues so you have choices. If there are scenes available, get them early and make sure you are very comfortable with the material. If you feel the need to use a prop, make sure it is not a prop that will take away from the performance. If you do get a call back, try to wear the same clothes and, unless otherwise directed, do the same audition piece.
