The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has established new standards for respirable crystalline silica for General Industry located in and Construction located in . The purpose of these standards are to lower the permissible exposure limit for respirable crystalline silica to 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air and the action level of 25 micrograms per cubic meter of air and in-turn, provide a safer work environment for employees. This is accomplished through training and awareness, upgraded tools and equipment, the implementation of various control methods and the use of personal protective equipment to reduce/eliminate exposure. Employee evaluations and re-evaluations are also prescribed when employees are required to wear a respirator for 30 or more days a year.
