The purpose of the Public & Community Health Benefit Scholarship is to advance/improve public health in Nevada; the scholarship will be awarded to a student in recognition of excellence in the area of service to public health (on-going community benefit project; volunteering; significant internship; etc). The scholarship will first be applied to any tuition balance the student may have; and any remaining funds shall be distributed to the student as a monetary award.
Recipients may reapply for this scholarship in subsequent years, provided they maintain the scholarship criteria and remain in good standing with the institution. Any Change of Conditions to this document reference the policies of the Board of Regents of the NSHE, the University.
The candidate(s) shall be selected by the School of Public Health (Scholarship Committee) from among those applying through Financial Aid and Scholarships (Office). If the Faculty fail to determine an eligible candidate(s) for the scholarship, the Office shall make such determination. The Office shall administer the funding of the Public & Community Health Benefit Scholarship.
The Public & Community Health Benefit Scholarship shall be awarded to a student who meets, or exceeds, the following criteria
- Student must be admitted to UNLV;
- Student must complete a UNLV Scholarship Application each year they wish to be considered for the scholarship;
- Student must be pursuing an Undergraduate, Masters (MHA or MPH) or a PhD degree in the School of Public Health; and
- Student must have at least a 2.5 cumulative UNLV grade point average if undergraduate or a 3.0 or higher GPA if graduate.
Application Process
Students should submit the following application materials by email to scholarships.sph@unlv.edu no later than March 1, 2024:
- A summary of their activities and how they benefit public health in Nevada (no more than 1 page)
- A copy of their current resume.
- The name and phone number of their mentor/supervisor/advisor, who will be contacted.
- List their current cumulative GPA.
- Email subject line should contain “LAST NAME and AWARD being applied to”.
The award will be given at the May 3rd, 2024 School of Public Health Honors Ceremony. Attendance is required.
Award Stipulations
Recipients of the Public & Community Health Benefit Scholarship grant(s) UNLV the right to publish their name and use the applicant’s likeness in a photograph in any and all of its publications, including website entries, without payment or any other consideration. These materials will become the property of UNLV and will not be returned. Recipients grant(s) UNLV the authority to edit, alter, copy, publish or distribute this photo for purpose of publicizing UNLV’s programs or for any other lawful purpose.
