Through the generosity of UNLV supporters in the Las Vegas business and philanthropic community, two types of professorships — Lincy Professorships and Angel Scholars — have been created to promote and support the excellent research and educational contributions of prominent UNLV faculty. These positions have been created in a variety of disciplines which have direct impact on economic and community development in southern Nevada. For more information on these programs, please contact the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost.
Lincy Professorships
Professorships
Professorships will be awarded to Associate or Full Professors (newly hired or existing faculty) with the aim of further enhancing their proven track records of research and scholarly productivity. Lincy Professorships will be awarded to faculty working in The Lincy Institute areas of focus: health care, education, and social services. The professorships consist of a three-year award of $25,000 per year. There are two restrictions associated with the award: 1) no summer teaching; and 2) no more than $10,000 of each yearly award can be used for salary support as a stipend. The remaining $15,000 will cover fringes/benefits on the salary stipend (approx. $2,000) while the rest can be used for research support. For the duration of the professorship, faculty will be expected to reference the formal professorship name when required to list their title in correspondence, publications, etc. (i.e., Jane Smith, Ph.D., Lincy Professor of Education). An annual report of accomplishments associated with the professorship will be required.
Assistant Professorships
The Lincy Assistant Professorships will be awarded to junior faculty (newly hired or existing) with promising scholarly and research trajectories as judged from extant productivity and programmatic plans. The aim of these awards is to boost early research and scholarly efforts and support a focus on productivity. Lincy Assistant Professors will be faculty working in The Lincy Institute areas of focus: health care, education, and social services. The Assistant Professorship consists of a three-year annual stipend of $10,000, (inclusive of fringes/benefits). There are two restrictions associated with the award: 1) no summer teaching; and 2) no course buy-out during the academic year. For the duration of the early career award, faculty will be expected to reference the formal award name when required to list their title in correspondence, publications, etc. (i.e., Jon Jonas, Ph.D., Lincy Assistant Professor of Nursing). An annual report of accomplishments associated with the professorship will be required.
Angel Professorships
Through the generosity of our donors, a number of professorships have been created to promote and support the work of excellent faculty in a variety of areas.
Professorships will be named after the donor and are to be awarded to new high-impact hires at the Associate or Full Professor rank (i.e., the John Doe Professorship in Physics or the Mary Doe Associate Professorship in Psychology) to further promote and support their scholarship and research. The professorships consist of a three-year award of $25,000 per year, inclusive of fringes/benefits. Donors generally specify the discipline to which they want the professorship applied and conditions on the allocation of the funds (salary vs. research support vary by donor-named professorship). For the duration of the professorship, faculty will be expected to reference the formal professorship name when required to list their title in correspondence, publications, etc. (i.e., Jane Smith, Ph.D., Joe Toby Professor of Mechanical Engineering ). An annual review of accomplishments associated with the professorship will be required.
