Auto Patrol
The goal of the 83-person force of commissioned police officers is to:
- Minimize crime.
- Serve the community.
- Facilitate the flow of traffic through high-visibility patrols and proactive community policing.
All members of the patrol unit have full arrest powers and are certified by the state's Peace Officers' Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Commission. They are all trained in emergency response procedures, basic first aid, and firearms proficiency. They are provided annual training to maintain and upgrade their skill levels.

Bicycle Patrol
Bicycle patrol is one of the oldest and most well-established components of our community policing efforts. The patrol unit allows university police officers the ability to easily communicate with campus pedestrians and access areas of the campus that are more difficult to reach by car.

Foot & Cart Patrol
University Police Services' officers pride themselves on being available to the campus community for assistance when needed. With community policing at the core of our mission, our officers utilize foot and cart patrol as a way to deter crime, make themselves better accessible and available to assist when needed, enhancing the feelings of public safety. During busy times on campus, such as when students are walking to class, patrolling on foot or in carts allows officers to maneuver more safely and provide a reassuring presence to our campus communities.
Body Worn Cameras on Campus
In fall 2018, University Police Services outfitted its officers with body-worn cameras (BWC’s) for use during patrols of campus. Ensuring transparency and accountability, UNLV’s Video Camera Surveillance Committee reviewed and approved the camera policy in May 2018. Officers received training on operation of the cameras, the policy governing their use, and the storage and chain-of-custody of the camera footage. Cameras were distributed to a number of officers for trial operations on the Nevada State University campus on Aug. 21, 2018 before moving into phase two at UNLV’s Shadow Lane Campus, and finally onto UNLV’s Maryland Parkway Campus, and at the College of Southern Nevada. All day and night shift patrol officers will be issued BWC’s to be worn on duty.
