Recruitment for part-time police officers is ongoing. University Police Services is always seeking qualified applicants.

University Police Services receives applications for the position of university police part-time officer from both those who desire a career as a police officer as well as current police officers wishing to work part-time at special events that are conducted on campus. Part-time officers are paid while working various special events that are scheduled on university properties throughout the year.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Possesses a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Possesses a valid Nevada driver’s license
  • U.S. citizen
  • Nevada resident
  • No felony convictions
  • Current Nevada P.O.S.T. Category I certificate

Hiring Process

Employment with the University Police Services is conditional upon successful completion of the following:

  • Physical agility test
  • Background investigation
  • Polygraph examination
  • Medical examination
  • Psychological evaluation
  • Drug screening test
  • Candidate interview
  • Any other tests or interviews required by this agency
  • Successful completion of high school and/or college (dependent upon position)

**All fees associated with the testing process must be paid by the applicant, with no guarantee of employment or reimbursement.

Minimum Requirements to Maintain Part-Time Officer Status

  • Must complete at least 12 hours of in-service training, yearly (paid).
  • Must work at least six special events every six months (paid). 
  • Tested proficiency in the use of force, arrest and control techniques, and less lethal weapons, yearly. (paid)
  • Tested proficiency in firearms, biannual. (paid)

Starting pay: $16-$21 per hour
