Biography
Yulia Gavrilova is a clinical psychology research faculty in the College of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina where she conducts clinical research and provides clinical services for child and adult patients who are admitted to acute care medical emergency department and Level 1 trauma center for the treatment of traumatic physical injuries. Gavrilova graduated from UNLV with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. She completed her predoctoral residency at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and her postdoctoral fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. Gavrilova’s research program has focused on applied projects that complement clinical practice. The scope of her clinical research has mainly concentrated on development, evaluation, and dissemination of culturally tailored, technology-assisted mental health interventions and resources for vulnerable populations that traditionally underutilize mental health services, particularly substance use and traumatic stress populations such as veterans, firefighters, traumatic injury and disaster survivors, and burn victims. A secondary research focus, which is complementary to Gavrilova's overarching research program, targets underlying motivational factors that enhance behavioral outcomes or lead to problematic behaviors such as substance use.
