Advising Philosophy Statement
My philosophy of advising is informed by my educational background in psychology and counseling, and by my professional and personal experiences with college advising and working with Exploring/Undeclared students among other populations for most of the past 10 years. My advising approach focuses on student-centeredness. The priority being to gauge what students immediate needs are and building on that by teaching/informing students on their options when it comes to undergraduate studies, major exploration, and co-curricular activities. Establishment of rapport, active listening, and effective communication are of the most importance when fostering critical thought regarding decisions related to progression towards undergraduate degrees and beyond.
