Biography
Dr. Reyes J. Luna (he/him/his) currently serves as the Interim Assistant Director in the Office of Student Diversity Programs. He graduated with an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He also holds a Master’s degree from Ohio University in Higher Education and a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from University of California, Davis. Reyes has over 29 years of experience working in Student Affairs and Academic Affairs and has worked at 6 different Universities.
Reyes aims to leverage his passion for learning and commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in higher education. He strives to create an inclusive and equitable environment that empowers individuals from diverse backgrounds to thrive authentically; foster a culture of respect, understanding, and collaboration, that contributes to the development of students who are not only academically proficient but also socially conscious and culturally competent; provide opportunities for continuous learning, open communication, and strategic initiatives that offers positive change, promotes EDI as fundamental pillars in the pursuit of enhancing student and university success; and utilize a holistic approach to foster community that embraces and celebrates the unique qualities of each person while working to dismantle barriers to equality and create opportunities for voices of those traditionally marginalized to be heard.
Reyes loves to travel, read, and experience other cultures. He has been to 21 countries and counting and has been to every US state except for two (Maine and Rhode Island). In addition, Reyes has taught in the Ethnic and Women’s Studies department at Cal Poly Pomona and has taken students on Civil Rights Tours of the South and the Underground Railroad.
