Overview

Lecturer and clinical instructor Dr. Lisa Nicholas joined the School of Nursing during Summer 2014. She strives to increase students’ engagement in their own learning, cultivate strong mentor/mentee relationships between faculty and students, and cultivate relationships among community partners, nurse leaders, and the school’s alumni.

Expertise

Dr. Nicholas is experienced in pediatrics and nursing fundamentals for novice nurses. Additionally, she specializes in learning and utilizing the best practices to both increase student engagement and minimize barriers to learning.

Classes Taught

Dr. Nicholas is currently teaching Fundamentals of Nursing, Nursing Skills and Assessment Lab, Communications Didactic Courses, as well as Community, Pediatric, Critical Care, and Gerontological Clinicals.

Education Background

Dr. Nicholas earned her bachelor’s and a master’s in nurse education from the Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­. She earned her doctorate of nursing education from the University of Saint Augustine for Health Sciences.

Research or Scholarship

Dr. Nicholas wrote her dissertation on confidence levels in novice nurses, researching how to improve and assess competency through Next-Generation-NCLEX practices and assessments.

Awards, recognitions, or group affiliations

Dr. Nicholas received the 50 Under 50 Award from the Nevada Nurses Association and the Clinical Excellence Award. She was nominated as the March of Dimes Nurse of the Year and was recognized for Leadership Excellence as a Master’s Student.

Dr. Nicholas is a board member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, a member of the School of Nursing Student Affairs Committee, and a member of the American Nurses Association, in addition to serving on the University Student Conduct Hearing Board.
