Kendra McGlothen, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor-in-Residence
Biography
Dr. Kendra McGlothen earned her doctoral degree in neuroscience from the Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» (UNLV). Her research interests focus on the pivotal role of microglia in neuroinflammatory disorders and the importance of early detection and intervention for effective treatment. Neuroinflammation is a key factor in the pathogenesis of many neurological disorders, including Major Depressive Disorder, Alzheimer's disease, and Multiple Sclerosis. Dr. McGlothen's work investigates glial-specific indicators of morphology, metabolic changes, and drug efficacy in neuroinflammatory conditions. By analyzing microglial activity at various levels, her research uncovers distinct patterns that correlate with disease progression. These insights offer potential biomarkers for early detection of neurological diseases and contribute to the development of novel drug screening tools. Her studies also explore how pharmacological interventions impact glial cells and influence disease outcomes. Dr. McGlothen is deeply committed to diversity and inclusion in her teaching and mentorship. She actively incorporates global perspectives and diverse considerations into her lectures and group discussions, fostering a participatory learning environment where all students feel encouraged to contribute. Her approach to teaching emphasizes the importance of critical thinking, mastery of scientific techniques, and lifelong learning. At UNLV, Dr. McGlothen's duties include undergraduate teaching, course development, and departmental service. She is particularly passionate about creating engaging and inclusive educational experiences that reflect her commitment to diversity. Dr. McGlothen also values advising and mentoring, using these opportunities to support students’ academic and personal growth and help them achieve success in their academic endeavors.
