Biography
I am a medical anthropology Ph.D. student interested in complementary and alternative medicine use for maternal postpartum health. My future research will explore the motivations and safety concerns behind the alternative maternal health practice of placentophagy–the consumption of the placenta postpartum. I am also passionate about examining the sociopolitical characteristics of placental consumption and how alternative maternal health practices are discussed within public health spaces. In light of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, my current research explores the ways in which COVID-19 may have impacted a woman’s decision to consume their placenta postpartum.
