Biography
Elizabeth Johnson has a decade of higher education experience and diverse career experience across various fields. She earned her B.A. in studio arts from Cal Poly Humboldt with a minor in Theater and a certification in Museum and Gallery Practices. Her educational journey continued with an M.F.A. in studio arts and a Ph.D. in anthropology from UNLV. Throughout her career, she has excelled as a photographer skilled in capturing moments and crafting compelling narratives. She also served as a social media and research director, a curatorial assistant at the Humboldt State Natural History Museum, and contributed to wildlife conservation and rehabilitation efforts through an apprenticeship at Kendalia Wildlife Rescue and Rehab. While her experience spans diverse fields, her true passion lies in advising students throughout their academic journey. Additionally, Elizabeth actively contributes to educational initiatives by working with the adult learner advisory board and assisting adult learners in accessing valuable resources. Beyond her professional life, she is an avid reader who finds joy in literature, nature, travel, and spending time with her family, including her fur babies.
Advising Philosophy Statement
As an academic advisor who advises exploring major students at the Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³», my philosophy is centered on empowering students to make informed decisions about their academic and career goals. My approach is student-centered and collaborative, where I take the time to understand each student's unique interests, skills, and strengths. I provide guidance and support in exploring academic and career pathways and encourage students to take advantage of the resources and opportunities available to them at UNLV.
I believe in a holistic approach that recognizes the importance of personal growth, leadership development, and community engagement in shaping a student's academic and career journey. I seek to build a strong rapport with my students, providing them with a safe and supportive space where they can express their concerns, ask questions, and share their experiences. Ultimately, my goal is to help my students make informed decisions about their academic and career paths, and to support them in achieving their full potential. I believe that academic advising is not just about providing information, but also about building relationships, inspiring confidence, and fostering a lifelong love of learning.
