Biography
Christopher R. Cochran, Ph.D. is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Healthcare Administration and Policy, in the School of Public Health at the Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³». He has authored and co-authored numerous articles on access to care for underserved populations and safety net resources including management issues and quality improvement public and private Healthcare organizations. His recent research has examined the use of electronic medical records for improving patient safety and reducing cost as well as using real time data collection for bio-surveillance and early identification of disease outbreaks. Other research has examined economic and health effects of the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act. Dr. Cochran has also studied health disparities for Hispanic women in Nevada for the Nevada State Health Division’s breast and cervical cancer early detection and screening program, and he has researched access to treatment for the severely mentally ill. He has worked on evaluating the cost efficiency in providing services to low income populations and with emphasis on primary care providers and public hospitals. Dr. Cochran teaches U.S. Healthcare systems, Healthcare policy, epidemiology, and strategic management. He is past president of the Nevada Public Health Association and is a current member of the American College of Healthcare Executives as well as several local professional organizations. He is a board member to the Nevada Public Employees Benefits Program appointed by Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval.
