Biography

Carlaya Koslow, affectionately known as the “Queen of Flow,” is a beloved radio personality at Public Radio KUNV, where she captivates listeners every weekday from 9 a.m. to noon. A native of Compton, California, Carlaya’s life has been deeply shaped by the vibrant culture and tumultuous history of the '60s and '70s. She studied communications and dance at UCLA, which laid the foundation for her dynamic broadcasting career.

Carlaya's journey in radio began with Los Angeles' Kaleidoscope Radio Magazine, where she produced the New Talent Showcase, a platform that spotlighted emerging artists. Her natural gift for identifying and nurturing talent has led her to train dozens of interns over her 35-year career, many of whom have gone on to achieve success in radio and entertainment.

In the late 1980s, Carlaya made Las Vegas her home, bringing with her an expansive knowledge of America’s greatest music genres—Jazz, R&B, Rock, Rap, and Pop. Her personal music collection is a testament to her passion, boasting 4,000 vinyl albums and 2,000 CDs, each carefully curated.

Her achievements in broadcasting are well-recognized; in 2012, she won the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s “Best Radio Personality” award, followed by her induction into the Nevada Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2013. Carlaya’s guiding principle, “It’s not what you play, it’s how you play it,” perfectly encapsulates her unique approach to radio, where she brings music to life with unmatched energy and expertise.
