Biography

Antoinette Hurtado is a career Foreign Service Officer in the U.S. Department of State with 19 years of service. She also has a passion for diversity, equity, and inclusion and has mentored and coached students and young professionals from underrepresented groups throughout her career. She currently serves as the Diplomat in Residence regional recruiter for Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Antoinette has served overseas as a political officer at the U.S. Embassy to Australia in Canberra; as a consular officer at the U.S. Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; as the Special Assistant to the Director of Communications and Public Diplomacy at the U.S. Embassy to Afghanistan in Kabul; and as the Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See in Rome. 

Antoinette also has served in several assignments in Washington, DC. She was the Course Coordinator for Policy, Planning, and Resources Training in the Public Diplomacy Division at our training facility, the Foreign Service Institute. She was a Lawrence Eagleburger Fellow working in the Marketing Department of celebrity chef José Andrés’ restaurant company, ThinkFoodGroup.  Before her Fellowship, she was the Acting Office Director in the formerly-named Bureau of International Information Programs’ Office of Public Engagement, managing teams working on digital public engagement campaigns with youth networks in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

She also served in the 24/7 Bureau of Intelligence and Research watch office and as an advance officer for the Secretary of State, arranging overseas and domestic travel programs and logistics.

Antoinette earned a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a Master in Public Policy from Harvard University.  She has studied Spanish, Portuguese (Brazilian), and Italian.
