Biography

Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Entry and Prelicensure Education, Dr. Angela Silvestri-Elmore is a clinician, educator, researcher, and author. She joined the School of Nursing during Summer 2016 and serves on the graduate DNP project and Ph.D. dissertation committees. She also works with faculty, staff, and students to manage primary and episodic health care needs at UNLV’s University Health Center.

Expertise

Dr. Silvestri-Elmore’s area of expertise lies in nursing education. As a certified Nurse Educator, she focuses on licensure exam preparation for new graduates, clinical education innovation, and nursing student success from both academic and non-academic perspectives.

Classes Taught

Dr. Silvestri-Elmore has taught in classroom, clinical, and simulation settings. She currently teaches Nutrition and Human Development Across the Lifespan, Foundations of Care in Nursing, Gerontological Nursing, and Complex Care in Nursing within the prerequisite and undergraduate nursing programs.

Education Background

Dr. Silvestri-Elmore earned a Bachelor’s in Nursing and in Sociology from Salve Regina University in Newport, RI, and her Master’s—with a focus in nursing education—and Ph.D. from the Ê×Ò³| Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»­. She also has a post-Master's graduate certificate in Advanced Practice and is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner.

Research or Scholarship

Dr. Silvestri-Elmore’s research program focuses on cultural competence in health care, obesity management in primary care, and best practices in nursing education. Her area of scholarship centers on preparing new-graduates for their licensure examinations, for which she provides published textbooks that contain online question banks and study flashcards.

Awards, recognitions, or group affiliations

Dr. Silvestri-Elmore received awards for academic excellence during her undergraduate and graduate degree programs and is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing. She is a certified Nurse Educator.
