Alexandra Slemaker received her Ph.D. in sociology from Iowa State University, her master’s in science in investigative psychology from the University of Huddersfield in England, and her bachelor of arts in Psychology and minor in Native American Studies from the University of Oklahoma. Her interdisciplinary research uses qualitative and quantitative methodologies to examine mass murder, specifically how psychological/psychiatric, ideological, and motivational factors influence mass shootings and domestic terrorism. Her current work focuses on how mass murder attacks can be prevented in public and educational spaces within the United States, along with how the number of people killed and injured in these attacks can be reduced. Slemaker's research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including American Journal of Criminal Justice and Journal of Threat Assessment & Management. Prior to coming to UNLV, Slemaker was a tenure-track assistant professor at the University of North Florida. Additionally, she was previously employed at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center where she participated in research and clinical work. She was involved in several federal and state funded grants for youth with problematic sexual behavior and the prevention of child maltreatment. Her research on these topics has been published in journals such as Qualitative Psychology and Journal of Pediatric Psychology.
