Scientists, interest groups and the community at large can now access a treasure trove of information on all sides of the Yucca Mountain debate, right from their home computers. More than one million documents related to the proposed high-level radioactive waste repository are now online and available to the public via the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Licensing Support Network (LSN). On Thursday, November 11 at 7:00 PM, LSN administrator Daniel J. Graser will present and discuss the LSN project at UNLV's Thomas Beam Engineering building (College of Engineering auditorium - room A-107), providing a live demonstration of the system as well as guidance on accessing the system online.
The LSN was developed in order to provide a single repository for documents related to the Yucca Mountain project, in a uniform, searchable format. Utilizing this system, interested members of the public may access a wide range of scientific studies and other documents related to Yucca Mountain from their own computers. Research conducted by the Information Science Research Institute (ISRI) at UNLV's Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering was a major influence on the design and construction of this massive public database.
This presentation is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the north parking lot, adjacent to the Beam Engineeringbuilding (enter campus from Maryland Parkway & Cottage Grove).
