Last November, UNLV’s Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) hosted its semi-annual Outlook conference with a focus on a possible looming recession, higher interest rates, a tight labor market, and skyrocketing prices for consumers. Less than six months later, these topics are still making headlines.
CBER’s Spring Outlook, scheduled for April 26, will continue the discussion of economic and workforce diversification. The event will also dive deeper into the center’s Roadmap 2040 research, which outlines a long-term plan for economic diversification in Southern Nevada using the Southern Nevada Population Forecast as a guide.

Following opening remarks by CBER director Andrew Woods, and expert panel will focus on local workforce demand, opportunities, challenges, and policy considerations. Jill Tolles, executive director of Kenny Guinn Center for Policy Priorities, will moderate. Panelists include:

- Meredith Levine, director of economic policy, Kenny Guinn Center for Policy Priorities
- Jennifer Katz, vice president of strategic investments, Boxabl
- Diego Trujillo, chief executive officer, Las Vegas HEALS
CBER’s Economic Forecast
CBER’s U.S. and Southern Nevada forecasts for 2023 and 2024 will be presented by director Andrew Woods and research director Stephen Miller. Sandip Bhaget, chief investment officer at Whittier Trust, will bring a national perspective to the conversation. Anjala Krishen, UNLV professor and Mel Larson Endowed Chair of Marketing and chair of the Department of Marketing and International Business, will moderate.
