The UNLV Performing Arts Center is proud to present legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman at 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 6 as part of the Charles Vanda Master Series. Undeniably the reigning virtuoso of the violin, Perlman enjoys superstar status rarely afforded a classical musician. He returns to the UNLV Performing Arts Center for an exceptional solo recital with accomplished pianist Janet Guggenheim.
Born in Israel in 1945, Perlman completed his initial training at the Academy of Music in Tel Aviv. Afterward, he moved to New York and was soon propelled into the international arena with an appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1958. Following his studies at the Juilliard School, Perlman won the prestigious Leventritt Competition in 1964, which led to a burgeoning worldwide career. Since then, he has appeared with every major orchestra and in recitals around the world.
Internationally, Perlman has expanded his career as a soloist to include conducting engagements with the Berlin Philharmonic, Concertgebouw Orchestra, London Philharmonic, the English Chamber Orchestra, and the Israel Philharmonic. He recently made recordings conducting the Israel Philharmonic and the Berlin Philharmonic.
