The Women's Research Institute of Nevada at UNLV (WRIN) will present Thalia Dondero with the WRIN Leadership Award. Dondero was elected as the first woman to the Clark County Commission in 1974, and served as a regent for the Nevada System of Higher Education from 1996 until 2009.
The WRIN Leadership Award is given to an individual who has made significant contributions as a mentor and leader in the Las Vegas community.
Dondero's civic and professional affiliations include the areas of education, law enforcement, health care, civic engagement, and environmental protection.
As an elected official, Dondero opened doors for women in public service and served as a mentor to hundreds of women seeking public office.
