The American Prize Award-winning UNLV Wind Orchestra performs “Joe’s Tango" at 7:30 p.m., on Nov. 16 in Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall. The concert features Distinguished Artist-in-Residence and principal trombonist for the New York Philharmonic, Joseph Alessi.
"The College of Fine Arts is very honored to have Joe Alessi as a Distinguished Artist-in-Residence during this academic year," said College of Fine Arts dean, Nancy J. Uscher. "Our students will be truly inspired by his artistry.”
The Nov. 16 concert, conducted by Professor Thomas G. Leslie and Zane S. Douglass, highlights a plethora of world premiere performances including: UNLV Wind Orchestra Associate Conductor Douglass’ transcription of the Main Theme from “Captain Blood” by Erich Korngold; Chick Corea’s Concerto for Trombone, featuring Alessi; Jorge Machain’s Five Cities featuring the internationally renowned brass quintet, Boston Brass; and a brand new composition titled, Triumvirate, composed by Machain to commemorate the collaboration of Maestro Alessi, the Boston Brass, and the UNLV Wind Orchestra on the release of their new album, Joe’s Tango.
