WHAT: College of Sciences Undergraduate Research Opportunities Day
DATE: Thursday, Aug. 6; Public viewing from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
LOCATION: UNLV Student Union Ballroom
Undergraduate scientists from UNLV and across the nation will showcase summer research projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH), NASA and more at the Student Union Aug. 6 during the annual UNLV Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program Day.
Twenty UNLV undergraduates and a cohort of 10 undergraduates selected from colleges and universities across the nation will mark the completion of ten-week intensive research projects with UNLV, DRI and Nevada Cancer Institute faculty members in areas such as biomedicine and human health, Nevada's fragile environment and ecosystems, climate change, stem cell research, microbiology, astrophysics and more.
The summer research is sponsored by the Summer 2009 Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program and the Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program. Each of these highly competitive programs teams undergraduate researchers with UNLV faculty and allows students to gain hands-on experience in grant-funded research. Participants engage in each phase of standard research activity: developing research plans, writing proposals, conducting research, analyzing data and presenting research results in oral and written form.
The program is funded by grants from the NSF, NIH, NASA, the High Pressure Science and Engineering Center and the Nevada Idea Network of Biomedical Research Excellence Program. For more information, please visit
